Creating Striking Anime Key Visuals
Key visuals are the high-impact illustrations that define anime marketing and establish the visual identity of a story. In this advanced course, you'll learn how to create powerful standalone artworks that capture the essence of a character, scene, or narrative for use in posters, covers, promotional campaigns, and digital media. From selecting dramatic compositions and cinematic camera angles to refining lighting, color, and visual hierarchy, you'll develop a professional workflow for producing striking key visuals that communicate emotion and storytelling at a glance. Through complete illustration projects, you'll learn how to balance characters, environments, typography, and visual effects to create portfolio-quality artwork suitable for anime, manga, games, and promotional materials.

Skill Level
Advanced
Purpose
Adds environment and effects into the mix, balancing character, background, and typography for a more complete promotional-style piece. At this stage, the course pushes you to plan a key visual the way a studio would brief one - starting from a one-line concept and building outward into a full composition, rather than starting directly from a pose.
What You Will Learn
- Study how to balance characters, environments, and visual effects, and practice integrating typography into a key visual composition
- You'll start from a short written concept (for example, a single sentence describing a scene's mood and subject), develop two or three rough composition sketches from it, and carry your strongest option through to a more refined illustration that includes background, supporting effects, and basic type placement
Outcome
You'll be able to produce a more complete key visual that balances character, environment, and supporting design elements, and you'll have a short set of concept sketches alongside one refined piece that shows how you developed the idea.

Skill Level
Expert
Purpose
The complete key visual course, producing a small set of full illustration projects suitable for posters, covers, or promotional use. This is the most involved tier in the series: rather than one key visual, you'll plan and complete two, each built around a different mood or concept, so you finish with a body of work that shows range rather than a single result.
What You Will Learn
- Work through the complete curriculum on composition, cinematic camera angles, lighting and color for visual hierarchy, and typography and effects integration
- The course is structured around two complete key visual projects from start to finish: for each, you'll move through concept sketches, composition refinement, full rendering, and final typography or effects placement, with the second project building on lessons learned from the first
- You'll also prepare both pieces at sizes and formats suitable for print, banners, or online platforms, so the technical side of finishing a key visual - not just the illustration itself - is part of the work
Outcome
You'll finish with two complete, polished key visuals covering different moods or concepts, plus the professional workflow to plan and produce striking promotional artwork for future anime, manga, or game projects.
